
St Joe’s student Mirelle Martens won 3 races and ran a leg on the winning 4 x 400m team at the 2014 ASAA NW Zone Meet
St Joes’s sisters Mirelle and Janai Martens combined to win 6 gold medals and set 2 Zone records at the 2014 ASAA Northwest Zone Track and Field Meet in Peace River on Friday and Saturday.
Grade 12 student Mirelle triumphed in the Senior Women’s 800, 1500, and 3000m. She also teamed up with the Comp’s Kelsey Bishop, Beaverlodge’s Kailey Bratland, and Eaglesham’s Brittany Duval for a win in the 4 x 400m relay. The quartet smashed the existing 4 x 400m zone record by 11 seconds, stopping the clock at 4:37.96.
Grade 10 student Janai won the Junior Women’s Long Jump and Triple Jump. Her Triple Jump mark of 10.28m also established a new Zone record.
Another notable local performances came from Alexander Forbes student Alexi Watson who won the Senior Girls 100m, 200m, and long jump.
Hillside Valleyview continued their winning streak in the team competition, capturing both the Jr High and Sr High aggregates. The top local high school was Beaverlodge Regional which finished 6th. Harry Balfour was the best local junior high school finishing in 3rd place overall.
The top 2 finishers in each Senior High event qualified for the ASAA High School Provincials in Calgary this Friday and Saturday.
