Athletics Canada has chosen Grande Prairie as one of four sites to co-host the first Hershey’s Track & Field Games Day in Canada on May 14.
Started in the late 90s, the Grande Prairie Hershey Meet is one of Alberta’s most established Hershey Meets. Each year, about 100 kids ranging in age from 6 to 14 compete to qualify for the Provincial Hershey meet in June. Provincial Hershey Meet winners are then eligible for selection to the North American Hershey Meet in Pennsylvania in early August.
This is the ninth year that the Grande Prairie Hershey Meet has been incorporated into the Peace Country Classic (PCC) Track and Field Meet. This year’s PCC will also host the NW Zone Trials for the Alberta Seniors Games in Fairview in July. A few hundred athletes of all ages, from 6 year olds to 70+, are expected to compete.
