Valleyview Hillside’s Cole Vetsch and Sexmith Secondary’s Keyana Anderson were the top local athletes at the 2017 ASAA Provincial High School Track and Field Championships in Edmonton on the weekend.
Both athletes won bronze medals: Vetsch in the Intermediate Men’s Triple Jump and Anderson in the Intermediate Women’s Discus.
A number of other locals barely missed the podium, achieving fourth place finishes. Hillside Valleyview’s Aimee Caron was 1/100th of second shy of the bronze in the Junior Women’s 80m Hurdles, while team mate Ben Sidgurdson had the same placing in the Junior Men’s Discus. GP Comp runner Brandon Tufford had a pair of fourths in the Intermediate Men’s 800m and 1500m.

GPRC Wolves XC Running recruit Kelcie Bulas (Edwin Parr, Athabasca) recorded two personal best times, placing 4th in the Senior Women’s 1500m and 5th the in the 3000m.
In the team competition, Hillside Valleyview was the top local school, placing 3rd in the 2A school standings.
