Wolves Runners Win 2013 DHT Press Run 10 km

Hayden Hollowell ran 35:17 enroute to winning the 2013 DHT Press Run 10 km

2012-13 Wolves X-C MVPs Hayden Hollowell and Jamie Wigmore continued their winning ways on Saturday, capturing the 10 km events at the 2013 DHT Press Run in Muskoseepi Park.  Hollowell clocked 35:17 for the hilly 10 km course, 3 minutes plus ahead of second place finisher Landon Dunbar of Grande Prairie.  Wolves alumnus (from a very long time ago) Terry Smith placed third.  Wigmore also dominated the womens race.  Her winning time of 42:12 was also three minutes clear of the second place finisher, 2011-12 Wolves X-C MVP Maddy Clough.  The 21.1 km races were won by Grande Prairie’s Darin Hunter (1:24:30) and Lindsay Tagen (1:36:35)  Full results are posted at http://racepro.ca/races/pressrun/index.htm

2013 GP Hershey Meet / Peace Country Classic Track Meet attracts 250+ athletes

Two hundred and fifty four competitors ranging from age 5 to 80+ descended on Legion Field on Saturday for the annual Peace Country Classic / GP Hershey Track Meet.

Hayden Hollowell won 3 events in the 2013 Peace Country Classic

Nineteen year old Hayden Hollowell from Wolves Athletics Club triumphed in three events: the Open mens 1500m, 800m, and 400m hurdles.  Other triple champions included:

Fred Brown   NW Seniors   M70+   Shot Put, Javelin, Discus

Russell Daultel   St Joes    M15-16    100m, 200m, hurdles

Joe Larsback   NW Seniors   M55-64    3000, 1500, 100, 200, and Shot Put

The meet served as trials for both the Provincial Hershey Meet in Edmonton in June and the Alberta 55+ Seniors Games in Barrhead in July.

Wolves Second at ACAC Track Champs

Jamie Wigmore, Amanda Patteson, and Kirsten Manz – 3/4 of GPRC’s bronze medal ACAC 4 x 400m team

With a win in the 800m, and three other podium finishes, Jamie Wigmore led the GPRC women to a second place finish at the 2013 ACAC Indoor Track Championships at the Edmonton Garrison on Saturday.

MacEwan University won the womens title. Concordia University College placed third.

Wigmore set four personal best times at the meet. In addition to winning the 800m in a school record time of 2:24, she also had a second place finish in the 400m (64.3), a third place finish in the 1500m (4:55), and anchored the Wolves womens 4 x 400m team to a third place finish (4:41 – school record.)

By scoring 30 points, Wigmore tied for first along with MacEwan’s Alex Gordichuk and Concordia’s Marriya Jenkins for most points scored by a female athlete.

With the number-one ranked ACAC 400m and 800m runner Joren Manz sidelined with a stress fracture, the Wolves men were in tough. Collectively, the GPRC finished 6th in the mens standings. Lethbridge College edged out SAIT for the win; Concordia University College placed third.

Hayden Hollowell was the top Wolves male performing, placing 8th in the 1500m (4:16 – personal best and school record), 6th in the 3000m, and anchoring the Wolves mens 4 x 400m team to a 6th place finish.

Two other Wolves athletes had top 8 placings. Amanda Patteson finished 5th in the 3000m and 8th in the 1500m, while Kayla Hardy placed 6th in the 1500m and 8th in the 3000m.

Manz Wins Provincial Junior 400m Indoor Title

Joren Manz turned his focus to the track on Saturday, blistering the 400m in 52.06 seconds to win the Provincial Junior Indoor Championship

GPRC Wolves runner Joren Manz clocked a school record time of 52.06 for 400m on Saturday and captured the provincial Junior (U19) gold medal at the Athletics Alberta Indoor Championships in Edmonton.

Manz added a bronze medal in the 800m race on Sunday (2:00.17), also bettering the existing GPRC school record.

Teammate Jamie Wigmore matched Manz’s  two podium finishes in the Senior Womens category.  She placed third in the 1500m on Saturday (5:02) and second in the 800m on Sunday (2:25).

Other notable Wolves and Wolves Athletic Club performances included Hayden Hollowell, 5th in the Junior Mens 3000m (9:15) and 9th in the Junior Mens 1500m (4:17), Dylan Zambolini, 14th in the Junior Mens 800m (2:09), and Britney Duvall, 4th in the Midget Girls 2000m (7:20) and 11th in the Midget Girls 1200m (4:10).

Wigmore Takes Down Yet Another Wolves School Record

Jamie Wigmore broke her second school record this season on Saturday, clocking 3:17.3 for the 1000m

Jamie Wigmore chopped 18 seconds off the Wolves womens school record in the 1000m at the Cam Levins International Invitational Classic of the World Track Meet at the County Sportsplex in Clairmont on Saturday.

Paced by teammate Danae Keddie and coach Bill Corcoran,  Wigmore stopped the clock at 3:17.3.

Hayden Hollowell just missed improving on his own on school record in the 1000m, recording a time of 2:51.7, just over a second slower than his best for the distance recorded last month.

The brother and sister duo of  Joren and Kirsten Manz were the top performers in the 400m.  Joren recorded a time of 55.6 in the mens 400m, while Kirsten ran 75,7 in the womens 400m.

Hollowell and Wigmore score top 3 placings at ACAC Indoor #1

Vaughn Marillier leading … well not leading … ok, he finished last … but not by much … the Mens 3000m at 2013 ACAC Meet #1

Rookie Wolves athletes Hayden Hollowell and Jamie Wigmore both had podium finishes at the  ACAC #1 Indoor Meet at the Edmonton Garrison on Sunday.

Hollowell finished second overall, and first amongst the college runners, in the Mens 1500m.  He clocked a time of 4:23.53, which is the second best indoor 1500m ever recorded by a Wolves athlete.

Wigmore, in her first ever indoor race, placed third in the Womens 1500m in a time of 5:14.16.

Fourteen year old Brittany Duval, representing the Wolves Athletics Club, narrowly missed the podium, recording a time 11:49.42 in the 3000m, good for 4th place overall.

In the combined ACAC team competition, the Wolves finished third overall behind MacEwan University and Concordia University College.  The Wolves women placed second, while the men were fifth.

Next up for the Wolves tracksters is the Athletics Alberta Provincial Age Group Championships in Edmonton on the first weekend of March.

More School Records for Wolves at Golden Bear Open Track Meet

Hayden Hollowell ran the 3000m in 9:24.85 on Friday, establishing a new personal best and GPRC school record

The assualt on the GPRC Wolves indoor track record book continued this weekend, as two athletes set three new marks at the Golden Bear Open at the University of Alberta Butterdome.

Joren Manz established new GPRC standards in the 300m (37.48-20th) and 600m (1:25.24-8th).

In the 3000m, Hayden Hollowell (9:24.85 – 15th) and Eric Martinek (9:27.24-16th) both recorded personal best times.  Hollowell’s time improved the GPRC school record by 13 seconds.

Two School Records fall at Rick(less) Scott Invitational Track Meet

The 2012-13 Wolves top x-country runners, Jamey Wigmore and Hayden Hollowell, continued their dominance on Saturday by posting wins and breaking school records in the 2nd Annual Rick(less) Scott Invitational Track Meet at the Eastlink Centre.

Wigmore trimmed more than 3 seconds off of the Lovely Sara Scott’s 2008 GPRC record, posting a time of 2:32.02 in winning the women’s 800m.  Wigmore also recorded a second win, capturing the womens 400m in 72.68.

Hollowell bested teammate Eric Martinek in the mens 1000m in a time of 2:50.36, which was 3/4 of second better than Kyle Small’s 2008 GPRC record.

John Murray won the mens 400m.

The event was marred by the absence of meet’s namesake, Rick Scott himself, who was felled by the flu.

Next up for the Wolves is the Golden Bear Open Meet in Edmonton next Friday and Saturday.  A select group of GPRC athletes will compete.  A full contingent of Wolves will contest ACAC Indoor Meet #1 in Edmonton on January 27th in Edmonton.

Fast Times Posted at AC X-C Running Nationals

Mo Ahmed, Cam Levins, and Kelly Wiebe in the final metres of the Senior Mens 10 km. Levins (#258) prevailed in the finishing sprint to capture his 3rd consecutive Canadian title.

A quintet of Wolves Athletics Club runners contested the Athletics Canada National Cross Country Running Championshipsin Vancouver on Saturday, and all five ran life time best times.

In the Junior Mens 8 km race, 18 year old Hayden Hollowell blitzed the 8 km course in 26:56, posting a 77th place finish,  improving upon his 2011 placing at Nationals by 35+ places.  Teammate Joren Manz took over a minute of his previous best 8 km time and placed 122nd.

Jamey Wigmore was the top local athlete in the Junior Womens race, posting a time of 19:21, good for 87th place.  Fourteen year old Danae Keddie, racing outside of Alberta for the first time, placed 122nd, one spot better than Kayla Hardy.

Other Wolves competitors included Bill and Marlene Corcoran, who placed 63rd and 66th respectively in the Masters 8 km race.  Mallory Pinnock, finished 64th in the Community 5 km run.

Former Wolves standout Fiona Benson, now running for Trinity Western University, had a strong run, placing 8th (6th amongst Canadians) in the Senior Womens 7 km race.  The race served as a selection trial for the 2013 national team, and Benson will now wait to hear if she has been selected for the Canadian team for the NACAC Championships in Jamaica and World Championships in Poland later this winter.
