The GPRC XC Running and Indoor Track Team captured a number of major awards at the 45th Annual Festival of Gold Athletics Awards Banquet on Thursday evening.
With a combined GPA north of 3.5, the team was named GPRC’s Academic Team of the Year for 2014-15.
Two individuals runners were also singled out for major awards. Amanda Patteson was named one of only two Academic All Canadians from GPRC in 2014/15. Patteson achieved the award by achieving All Conference honours in XC running plus maintaining an honour’s standing with a full course load in the Nursing program.
Mirelle Martens was named GPRC’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2014/2015. Martens went undefeated against ACAC/CCAA competition in both x-country and track this year, and also represented Canada in the U20 races at both the Pan American and IAAF World Cross Country Championships. The ACAC also announced on Thursday, that Martens has been named 2014-15 ACAC Female Athlete of the Year for All Sports.
