Two of the oldest records on the books came under assault during Day 1 of the 2012 NW Zone Track and Field Championships in Peace River on Tuesday.
The GP Comp’s Joren Manz set a new standard in the Senior Mens 400m clocking a time of 50.72, beating a 24 year old record.
Beaverlodge’s Hayden Hollowell narrowly missed an even older record, the 33 year old standard in the Senior Mens 1500m. Hollowell clocked 4:20.34, a scant 0.44 seconds off of Brian Harms 1979 standard of 4:19.90. t
In the team competition, Hillside Jr/Sr High was comfortably ahead in the Senior High race. in the Jr High standings, Hillside was a scant 2 points in front of Peace River’s TA Norris after Day 1.
The meet concludes tomorrow. Top finishers in the Senior High category advance to the Provincial High School Championships on June 1 and 2.
