Hollowell Romps to Zone X-C Victory

Wolves Athletics Club athlete Hayden Hollowell dominated the Senior Mens race at the 2011 NW Zone Cross Country running championships in Wanham on Wednesday, October 5.  The 17 year old Beaverlodge Regional High Student covered the 6 km course in a time of 20:47, over 3 minutes ahead of the second place runner.

A number of other local athletes who’ve trained with the Wolves this fall also had some stellar results.  Cedric Labbe placed 4th in the Senior Mens race.  A trio of St Joe’s runners, Fiona Kato, Melanie Fortin, and Hailey Winnicky-Lewis, placed 5th, 6th, and 11th respectively in the Junior Womens race.

In the high school team competition, High Prairie’s EW Pratt was the top high school followed by La Crete.  The GP Comp placed third, one spot better than St Joes.

The top junior high team was also from High Prairie, St. Andrews.  They bested Montrose Junior High in second place and Eaglesham School in third.

The top 18 finishers in the various Senior High races qualified for the Northwest Zone team for the 2011 ASAA Provincial High School Cross Country Running Championships in Elkwater, AB next Saturday, Oct. 15.

Also next Saturday, the GPRC Wolves x-country team is in Camrose for the Augustana Open X-C Race and Race #7 in the 2011 Wolves X-C Series, the Dawson Creek Sneak, takes place.
