2011 Indoor Track Wrap Up

Club members contested a couple of indoor meets during February and March and posted some impressive performances.

At the Alberta Indoor Games on Feb. 12 and 13, Fiona Benson ran a personal best time and improved her Wolves school record in the 3000m to 10:04.00 with a 3rd place finish in the open womens race. Benson’s performance ended up ranking her #4 on the 2011 Canadian Junior Womens Indoor 3000m list.

Other GPRC competitors included Carly Pura (300m – 14th – 55.20 and 600m – 15th – 2:14.69) andHimreet Randhawa (Long Jump – 19th – 5.24m and Triple Jump – 11th – 10.86m).

On March 11 and 12, a larger contingent of Wolves contested the Alberta Provincial Indoor Championships.

Benson again led the GPRC women with a second place finish in the Junior Womens 3000m (10:07.54). Linnea Saltel led most of her heat in the 800m before fading to a 14th place finish in the 800m (3:10.34). Saltel also improved her personal best in the Long Jump with a leap of 3.04m (4th place).

Devin Woodland established two school records in the meet. He recorded a time of 9:37.03 in placing 5th in the 3000m and combined with Evan Paul, John Murray, and Eric Martinek in the 4 x 400m clocking 3:50.76 for 3rd place.

Woodland also placed 12th in the 1500 in 4:33.94.

Other Wolves men performances included a personal best time of 4:37.18 for Eric Martinek in the Junior Mens 1500m (13th place), Evan Paul (200m -25.87 – 14th and 400m – 57.26 – 13th)and John Murray (400m – 57.89 – 15th and 800m – 2:12.09 – 14th).

The Provincial Indoor meet also doubled as the unofficial ACAC Indoor Championships. The Wolves men placed 3rd in the final ACAC standings while the women finished 5th.
