Final Thoughts – Information Upate #5 – July 18, 2016

That was really fun!!!  I hope you had as much fun as I did and I hope to see all of you who competed in the Midget category back for the 2018 Alberta Summer Games in Grande Prairie.  We have a lot of talent in the Peace; we just need to get out and compete more on the provincial and national level.

Overall, I was really pleased with how we. I was predicting about 7 medals; we won 10 medals  – 2 silver and 8 bronze.  This was up for 7 medals in the 2014 Games (5 silver and 2 bronze).

For the record …

Explanation of the ASG Track Team Selection Process (May 17, 2016)

Team Practices in Grande Prairie – Starts Tuesday, May 31

For athletes in the Grande Prairie area, we’ll start team practices on Tuessday, May 31at 4:3- p.m.  For now, we’ll go on Tuesdays, but we may add days later on depending on the interest.

For out of town athletes, if you can make the odd Tuesday practice, that’s great.  I don’t expect you to drive 2 hours each way from Peace River to be at practice every Tuesday.  However, it’s up to you to practice on your own – you want to be at your best for the Games in July.  If you’d like some advice about training, please e-mail me.

Final Thoughts

I had a ton of fun; I hope you did too. This was my 8th Alberta Summer Games – 7 as the Zone Coach, and 1 as the Sport Chair. Ill definitely be back for 2016 in Leduc, and I hope to see all of you who participated in the Midget category back for another crack at it in two years.

Overall, I was really pleased with how we did last weekend. I was predicting 8 or 9 medals and we won 7 5 silver and 2 bronze. We ran into some really bad luck with injuries to Greg Student, Kris Baird, Christian Lambert, and Luis Ventura I figure that cost us at least 4 other medals right there.

Sherwood Park Track Classic – July 12 and 13

There’s a big two-day meet in Sherwood Park 1.5 weeks before the ASG.  If you are able to take part, it would be a great tune up.  Because this is provincials, normally you have to be an Athletics Alberta (AA) member, but the organizers have agreed to allow ASG team members who aren’t AA members to compete this year.

If you would like to take part, please get a hold of Bill by July 2, so he can enter you.  Entries are $25for the first event and $15 per additional event.  You would be responsible for your transportation to/from the meet and accommodation in Sherwood Park.
